If you’re in the northern hemisphere, this could be the time of year when you’re aiming to get away from your desk to enjoy fresh air or a change of pace. While I’ve come to realize that attempting to cram every minute of the day with “useful” activities is a fool’s errand, I do sometimes like to take a thought-provoking podcast with me when I’m walking or pulling up weeds in the garden.
Here are the book marketing podcasts that consistently make it onto my playlist.
Book Marketing Action Podcast
Hosted by Becky Robinson of Weaving Influence and packed with realistic, powerful ideas for authors ready to take a long term approach.
Episode suggestions:
I also love Becky’s book, Reach: Create the Biggest Possible Audience for Your Message, Book, or Cause
Book Marketing Tips and Author Success
Frank and honest advice from industry experts Penny Sansevieri and Amy Cornell.
Episode suggestion:
Smart Strategies to Recoup Your Book Investment (and why authors often approach ROI in the wrong way)
How We Really Feel About Advertising (mini episode)
Write Your Book in a Flash
Dan Janal’s mix of expert interviews and real author examples focus on entrepreneurs and solo business owners who write specifically to create a powerful marketing tool for their business.
Episode suggestions:
How Busy Executives Can Find the Time to Write a Book – And Profit
And I was interviewed about Author Websites in this episode
Individual episodes from other podcasts
These two podcasts are not usually book related, but I love them and listen regularly. Their hosts are authors and they have talked in individual episodes about publishing and marketing:
Style and Substance: Behind the Scenes of a Best Seller, Stories of Self Publishing (Jan 31, 2024)
Time and Attention: How to Get a Book Published (episode 121)
Worth catching up
These podcasts are no longer releasing episodes, but their back catalogs are well worth a listen:
Nonfiction Authors Association - as the name suggests, perfect for all angles of your nonfiction project
On Good Authority - publishing and promoting a book that builds your legacy

In general, I gravitate to podcasts that emphasize the long term nature of writing, publishing, and marketing a book that reaches the right people, grows the impact of your work, and opens the door for other business opportunities. I tend to avoid anyone who promises “secrets,” “instant success,” “overnight,” or “bestseller”. My clients are smart enough to know that worthwhile results usually take time, work, and investment. They’re looking for a meaningful, sustainable impact with their message, and the podcasts mentioned above do a great job of supporting that philosophy.
