Remember: Something Is Better Than Nothing
It's a good thing I planned on no resolutions this year because, like many other people, I'm battling a cold that is now into its fourth week, complete with endless coughing and zero energy. So I'm trying to be kind to myself (clearly a theme for me, as a similar post from 7 years ago shows!) and also attempting - gently - to be just a tiny bit productive while sick.
The principle that's helping me most is the knowledge that doing something, no matter how small, is significantly better than doing nothing. At this time of year I think we're all tempted to plan grand, sweeping changes, which leads to daft resolutions like going to the gym every day, or never eating cakes again. We all know these are ridiculous.
But being under the weather somehow gives me special permission to take tiny steps. A 10-mile run isn't going to happen for me this week, but a 1-mile walk can. I'm not going to launch an exciting new client program, but I can perhaps get just one Facebook advert up and running.
And I encourage you to do the same
Chances are, you have big plans for this year, but don't forget that the longest journey starts with a single step... and that the fall of dripping water wears away the stone. Small actions add up, and knowing you've made a start is so much more gratifying than being stuck without ever beginning.
Find the smallest, most ridiculously do-able first little action, and do it
If a new website is on your list this year, then you might be feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to begin. It's my job to guide you through that uncertainty and make the project a pleasure. Here are my suggestions for some easy, manageable initial steps. Choose just one, at first:
Download my free website starter kit and make a cup of tea while you browse through it. It will help you feel confident in making some initial decisions.
Start gathering a few examples of website designs you like, as inspiration when you're ready to tackle yours. For example, see if you like any of these.
Check out my website design packages and process. After careful preparation, I’ll get your website done in just 2 weeks.
Book a free consultation call with me. Having a date in your calendar for some friendly, impartial advice, is an excellent way to nudge a project into motion.
Whatever your big plans are for this year, I hope you can find the joy of steady, incremental progress.
